Paper, not pixels
This book was created to be browsed.
I may be an old boomer, but there's nothing better than holding real pages in your hands, feeling their texture, breathing in their scent.
It's a substantial book, even physically: over 700 pages. It takes up space, it's heavy, and it's not easy to carry around. But it offers something no ebook can.
Once read - or abandoned halfway through, and I won't be offended - it won't be useful for leveling a coffee table: it's too thick. It might, however, work well as a doorstop.
Why sell it
This book was not created to make numbers, nor to seek visibility.
It began as a personal diary, written during the trip to which I then decided to give a different life.
Today, it's intended for friends, acquaintances, and anyone who actually wants to read it. If word of mouth spreads and the feedback will be positive, I'll consider expanding it.
I don't have any particular expectations. But if it helps someone travel, even just in his imagination, or pushes someone to actually go, it will have already done its job.
A value, not a price
The way I am, I would have given it to everyone.
Then someone pointed out to me that this would devalue it. This book is the result of months of work: writing, revisions, editing, layout, illustrations. It's work that deserves to be recognized. And so I decided to give it a value. Even if it's symbolic.
Why not Amazon?
I had considered using Amazon for printing and distribution. However, the costs would have doubled the final price, especially for a color book of this size.
So I chose self-publishing: more complicated to manage, but more in line with my goals. With the added burden of having to manage distribution myself.
The price
€35.
It's not cheap, I know. But it's a price designed to only partially cover costs and, at the same time, give value to the work done.
And then a portion of the proceeds will go to Emanuele's family.
And the ebook?
A digital version will also be available for those who prefer to read on screen or are hard to reach.
But it won't be the same: I won't be able to add a dedication on the digital version. It will certainly be written in illegible handwriting, but it will be genuine.
